Kick off the search by looking at venue images, browse the reviews and read about each venue. Save any venue that stands out to you. Ask other wedding vendors you deal with for input on LGBT wedding venues.

HOW CAN I TELL IF A WEDDING VENUE ALLOWS LGBT WEDDINGS?

There’s a few clues to tell that a wedding venue allows LGBT weddings. Check if a vendor is proudly showing off work from gay couple wedding ceremony. Read their “about us” section. Are they speaking directly to same sex couples or is their language gender neutral? Find inspiration from real same-sex weddings or browse vendor guides on sites you know are equality minded.

HOW MUCH DO WEDDING VENUES COST

The average wedding venue cost is $5,000 based on a low of $3,000 to a high of $12,000 for the venue’s site fee, not including food and beverage. Location, demand, day of the week, inclusions, and seasonality all affect the pricing of a venue.

Most wedding venues have packages. Ask your venue coordinator about available options and deals. Keep in mind that many venue owners are willing to cut deals to keep the venue occupied during the slower season.

WHAT TO ASK A WEDDING VENUE?

Check available dates. Wedding date is one of the most important elements. That is why venue selection is usually the first step in planning a wedding.

Discuss the cost early. Be honest with your partner and wedding planner about the venue budget. If your budget doesn’t match what the venue offers, there’s no point in viewing the venue.

Some venues will have wiggle room, some will be able to accommodate for a smaller budget. But most will have a very specific price, which will be higher during peak season.

Talk about the capacity of the wedding venue. Does it fit what you’ve planned? Are there options indoor or outside to fit all your guests? Do they have smaller rooms in case your wedding is a smaller one?

What kinds of restrictions do they have? Usually venues are eager to please clients. But some may have limitations for your particular plan. Make sure to discuss those at your venue meeting.

Hiring outside vendors. Many LGBTQ wedding venues come with a predefined set of wedding vendors they work with. Some venues leave it open so that the client can bring his / her own vendors.

The more questions you ask, the easier it will be to make your decision and choose your perfect same-sex wedding venue.

HOW MUCH TO TIP WEDDING VENUE COORDINATOR?

Tipping your wedding vendor is totally up to you. Wedding venue coordinators are usually tipped $250-500, or 15-20% of the food and drink bill. Don’t forget about timing, if included in the contract, the final bill is due before the wedding. If not, at the end of the reception. And, of course, don’t tip if you don’t have great service.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE TO BOOK A WEDDING VENUE?

Generally, you should plan to book your wedding venue at least a year to nine months before your wedding day. That means you should probably start researching and touring a month or two before that.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A WEDDING VENUE?

You should understand your vision of the perfect wedding and then try to find a place which works well with your wedding plan. So look at things like date, cost, size of the location, indoor and outdoor space.

You’ll want to know if the venue is close to any public transportation, or if there are cab or driver services in the area for guests to use, don’t forget to check recommendations of this place. And remember this place must be really comfortable to make your plan of the ideal wedding work.
